A Mother's Day Gift that Honors and Helps Abused Women

Hello. Here is an upbeat post as promised after my venting.

Are you looking for a way to honor a special woman in your life this mother's day? Jewish Women International has a fantastic Mother's Day Flower Project. You make a donation of $20 ($25 if you want to also help a chapter of JWI or a Sisterhood Group) and they send a Mother's Day Card to your loved one, they give flowers to women in domestic violence shelters and they use the remainder of the money to fund two initiatives, their general work for abused women and the Women's Economic Security Fund.

Here are some responses they have gotten to the project (from their website):

"These flowers brought smiles to many faces and much joy to their lives."

"Mother's Day brings out a great deal of mixed emotions. Having your flowers made the environment festive and positive."
—Houston Area Women's Center, Texas

"Your thoughtful donation provided a day of joy to so many women whose lives have been filled with so much sadness."
—Shelter our Sisters, New Jersey

Let's help some other abused women this Mother's Day!
(Especially because Mother's Day is otherwise so painful for many, like me, who have estranged relationships with their mothers because of their abusive behavior.)

Your sister survivor/thriver,
Leah
